Gary ‘Jag’ Human

Jon Albert Gary Human, 77, of Atikokan passed away suddenly with his wife by his side on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg.

Gary was born on April 18, 1934 in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba to Albert and Maude Human. The family moved several times when he was young, finally settling in Morden, Manitoba. Gary left high school at the age of 18, joining the RCMP for seven years. It was during his time with the RCMP that he met the love of his life, Evelyn; they were married on August 6, 1960. He decided to complete his education, graduating from the University of North Dakota in 1964 with his teaching degree. His first teaching position was in Rainy River. He was there two years moving the family to Atikokan for what he promised was “only two years”.

During his teaching career, Gary coached many successful athletic teams and played an important role in the Outers program. He retired from Atikokan High School in 1988. Much of his retirement was spent coaching golf, fishing, traveling, and most importantly spending time with his family.

He leaves behind his wife Evelyn, children Curtis (Keri-Jo) Human of Port Alice, BC, Brenda (Miles) Buckrell of London, Ontario, and Jodi (Byron) Human of Thunder Bay, Ontario, grandchildren Karen (Darin) Jensen, Christopher, Aaron, Kristin (DJ), Emma, Steven and Bridget, great grandchildren Mikayla and Hailex, siblings Dorothy Andrews of Morden, Sharon (Jack) Elliot, of Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba, Vicky (Tom) Gurdebeke of London, Ontario and Tracey Human of Toronto, as well as a numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Gary was predeceased by his parents Albert and Maude, and brother Keith.
