Categories set for entries in Homesteaders’ Fair

Calling all exhibitors!

The Centennial Museum, Chamber of Commerce and Lions Club have settled on the list of classes and prizes for entries in the first Atikokan Homesteader’s Fair, which will be part of the Atikokan Tradeshow, September 17 and 18 at Little Falls Recreation Centre.

The prizes include a small cash award ($5, $3 and $2), and a ribbon… plus, of course, Atikokan bragging rights.

The fee $2 per entry (except for the one special children’s event, B9), and registration will be on Thursday, September 16 (except for Live Events) from 4 to 7 pm at Little Falls Recreation Centre.

The categories are:

Group A: Livin’ On The Land

Class 1 Dried & Smoked Meats and Fish: Smoked game, smoked fish

Class 2 Hand Painted Lures

Class 3 Live Event Friday, September 17, 7-8 pm

Ice Fishing Tip-Ups:  Set up your Ice Fishing Tip-Up rig including pole, line, lure and other paraphernalia and demonstrate “tip-up” to judge.

Class 4 Live Event Saturday, September 18, 2-3 pm

Best Packed: Best pack job for one night in the bush for one person. (Judged on size of pack and use of appropriate gear, organization, innovation, and least weight)

Class 5 Live Event starting Friday, September 17, 3 pm

Fisherman’s Knot Tying Challenge:  Drop by the Atikokan Homesteader’s Fair booth and try your best knot. The winner will the knot that can carry the most weight. Winners announced at 2:30 pm Saturday.

Class 1 Cake Decorating

Class 2 Pies

Class 3 Cookies

Class 4 Preserves

Class 5 Bannock

Class 6 Dried Camp Food

Class 7 Hiking Bars

Class 8 Pumpkins and Gourds

Class 9 SPECIAL KIDS CLASS – Veggie Man  ** No entry fee **

Group C. Inspired by the Wilderness (Creative and decorative crafts)

Class 1 Watercolour Painting

Class 2 Oil or Acrylic Painting

Class 3 Drawing

Class 4 Card Making

Class 5 Scrap booking

Class 6 Basketry

Class 7 Quilting

Class 8 Flower Arranging

Class 9 Wood Turning and Carving
