After Labour Day weekend, Atikokan seniors will be able to pick up a seniors’ information directory through the Atikokan Family Health Team.
The directory is designed with flip-up sections with contact information for community health services, Atikokan General Hospital and the FHT extensions, out-of-town clinics and hospitals, specific health groups, transportation and travel services, food and housing, government information, legal, financial and consumer protection, banks and investment services, recreation and emergency services.
With information provided by the Atikokan Caregivers’ Group, an informal collection of in-town agencies who meet periodically, a directory of services has been created by the health team with seniors’ needs in mind.
The FHT’s Kerri Hensrud said she built on a template created by the caregivers’ group a few years back and gave it to the former Atikokan Labour Adjustment Action Centre where staff “updated and tweaked it.”
She said that thanks to several local and area sponsors who funded the printing of the directory, 1,500 copies are now available (one for each household.)
“It [offers] easier access to finding phone numbers and agencies,” she said.
Seniors can pick up a directory at the Family Health Team office in the lower level of the clinic, at the Pioneer Centre, or have one delivered to them by calling the FHT office (597-8781).
