Robert ‘Bob’ Johnson

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Robert ‘Bob’ Edward Johnson, a longtime resident of Spruce Road, Atikokan, on Thursday, July 29, 2010.

Bob will be sadly missed by his six children Bob (Heather) Johnson of Fort Frances, Jim (Lisa) Johnson, Debbie Johnson, Susan Johnson, Jeff Johnson and Joanne (Matt) Galbraith, all of Atikokan, his 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, one brother, four sisters, numerous other family members and companion Iris.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Helen (Pudas) in September, 1999 and a daughter Karen (in infancy).

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life was held Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 145, in Atikokan. In memoriam donations can be made to the Northern Superior Chapter of the Kidney Foundation. 

Doris Darrah

Doris Mary Aneta Darrah, 83, of 123 Abbott Road, Atikokan, Ontario, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at the Atikokan General Hospital.

She was born May 2, 1927 in Devlin, Ontario, to the late Samuel and Mary Shine. Doris grew up in Devlin, where she later cooked and cleaned in the area for several years. On April 24, 1950, she was united in marriage with Thomas (Tom) Darrah. They moved to Atikokan where they raised their children. Doris was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She was a member of the Riverview United Church and the Church Auxiliary. In earlier years, she enjoyed playing baseball, and in later years she enjoyed bowling in the women’s league and seniors’ league. She also loved working with her hands making ceramics and pottery at workshops. Doris will be missed dearly by her family and many friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Tom Darrah in 2003; brothers, Mel, Lyle and Jim; and sisters, Helen and Jean.

Doris is survived by son Hughie Darrah of Atikokan, daughters, Deborah Darrah and Joan Darrah, both of Atikokan, and June Darrah (Austin Scott) of Fort McMurray, Alberta; grandsons, Clayton and Devon Darrah of Atikokan, and granddaughter, Rebecca Scott of Fort McMurray; sister Violet (Don) Doucette of Fort McMurray; brothers, Harvey (Jeannine) Shine of Devlin, Gerald Shine of Burriss, Ontario, and Leonard Shine of Fort Frances, Ontario; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 27 at Riverview United Church in Atikokan, with Pastor Garry Billings officiating. Pallbearers were Len Darrah, Lawrence Bellamy, Frank Tucker, Wayne Cunningham, Chris Shine and Gordon Shine. Cremation was handled by Rainy River Cremation Services in International Falls, Minnesota. Interment will take place at a later date in Little Falls Cemetery in Atikokan.
