Brent Anderson

Brent Norman Anderson, 27, of River Street, Thunder Bay, Ontario, passed away unexpectedly on July 19, 2010.

Brent will be sadly missed by his parents, Norman and Sheila, his sister Crystal (all of Thunder Bay), as well as his grandmother Marie (Frank) Komaransky of Atikokan, his dogs Max and Abby, and numerous relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm (1 pm Atikokan time) on Monday, July 26, in the chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, Thunder Bay, officiated by Pastor Matthew Diegel of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. Family and friends may gather one hour prior to service time.

The Burial of the Ashes, and a graveside commemoration, will take place at 2 pm on Tuesday, July 27, at the Little Falls Cemetery, Atikokan, Ontario. A luncheon will follow.

George Roy

With great sadness, the family of George Raymond Roy, 77, of Fort Frances, Ontario, announce his passing on July 23, 2010.

George was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, September 10, 1932. He moved to Winnipeg as an infant. He worked for the Canadian National Railway (CNR) for 38 years. After living in several Northern communities, they settled in Atikokan for 40 years, and then moved to Fort Frances in 1997.

George was very active on many community boards and committees; Cub leader, Little League baseball, minor hockey, and figure skating. He served on Atikokan Township Council, was the secretary for the curling club, and also very involved in the building of the arena and the new curling club in Atikokan. He was active in playing ball for the Atikokan Highballers and curling.

Retiring at the age of 55, he spent summers at the cabin on Perch Lake, fishing and gardening, and winters were spent travelling. He was active at the Legion and the Pioneer Centre in Atikokan, and the Sister Kennedy Centre in Fort Frances playing bridge, 500, smear, and pool with his many friends. His favourite pleasure was attending the many activities of his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Grace, and four children Raymond (Kim) of Fort Frances, Michael (Grace) of Crowsnest Pass, Alberta, Richard (Evelyn) of Kenora, Barbara (Dave) of Fort Frances; special niece Wanda of Thunder Bay; grandchildren Jordan (Jen) and Lindsay (Joe), Kristi-Lynn (Trevor), Allison, Krystal, Tiffany and Rita, Adam and Aaron, Tressa, Chad, Kellianne and Chris; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by in-laws Gil Stickelmaier, Mrytle Lovasz, Gordon and Lynn McCoy, Marilyn and Ken McKinnon, Sandra McConnell, Deb and Rob Pihulak.

He was predeceased by his parents Arcade and Charlotte Roy, brother Dennis Roy, sister Shirley Stickelmaier, niece Darlene Roy, and in-laws Hugh and Katie McCoy, and Jack McConnell.

A service was held July 27 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Fort Frances with Father Francis Pudicherry officiating.
