James (Jim) Ferguson
It’s with great sadness, the family of James (Jim) Ferguson announces his passing on May 7, 2010, at the age of 87 years.
Jim was born August 27, 1922 in the Manitoba Interlake area. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces at the age of 18 and proudly serviced his country overseas during the World War II. Upon his arrival back to Canada, Jim married Florence Hamaburg, his wife of 64 years. After a brief career farming, Jim and Florence settled in Atikokan, where they lived until Jim’s passing. He was employed for 32 years at Steep Rock Iron Mines, where he worked until his retirement. In his retirement, he travelled visiting family and friends. He also took great pride in his gardening and enjoyed working around the yard.
Together, Jim and Florence raised six children while becoming active members of the community. Jim was a long-serving member of the Loyal Order of Moose, where he dedicated countless hours. He was also involved in the Atikokan Minor Hockey Association, managing several minor hockey teams.
Left to grieve is Jim’s wife Florence, sisters Louise, Gene and Jackie, sons Brian (Mary-ann), Dale (Arlene), Lorne (Jocelyn), Gary, Rob (Sheila) and daughter Dianne (Lewis), numerous grandchildren, step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
At Jim’s request no service was held. Cremation has taken place and a private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Atikokan General Hospital.
The family thanks the doctors and nurses who made Dad’s last days as comfortable as possible.
